good morning this is Monday's video for Math and if party look to your checklist that you know that this weekend we are starting a new chapter we are moving to chapter 13 we are skipping chapter 12 is about conversions going from inches to yards to feet kilometers to meters optional if you want to go back and do some but given how much time we have we're going to focus on chapter 13 chapter 13 covers area and perimeter so we've talked about this before I come up multiple times in your weekly packet chapters as well as the terms area and perimeter mean about area and perimeter shapes and so free sample for looking at a talk about the perimeter the perimeter of the rectangle we're talking about the measure of the distance around the outside of that shape the perimeter is the distance around the outside when you're trying to calculate the perimeter you add all the sides of a shape it's a rectangle you add these four sides of Pentagon you at all five sides the distance the measure of the size of the shapes area so area is a measure of the inside surface of a shape how much distance or how much is covered by the inside so to measure that we can't just measure in a straight line measure in water called square units so that's why when you first start learning about area you're usually doing things like count squares so you might see drawings that look something like that and to find the area they ask you to count up how many squares make up the shape it's a measure inside surface we measured in square units different measurements on each side it is square miles than each square is a mile on each side so you can change what kind of square units but area is always measured in square units for this one we would say that the perimeter 3456 this is 6 units long this side is 123 units long the rectangle the opposite sides are equal to this is also 6034 perimeter perimeter 6 + 3 + 9 + 6 + 1515 + 3 is just going to say units for area 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 area is 18 and we would say Square now for area and we're going to spend a little more time on this later for area a lot of you already know that you don't have to necessarily count the squares often the squares won't even be there you can use what's called a formula and the formula for the area of a rectangle is to multiply the length so let's think about this one is 3 6 * 3 equals 18 by using the formula we get the same answer as by County men and that is always true so 18 square Eunice is still going to be our area so that's kind of a real quick overview of what we're going to be doing and we're going to take a little more slowly as we actually go through the pages but that's the big idea for area and perimeter 133 + 144 together so you can see they've got some of these rectangles drawn like I was describing the squares so we're just going to kind of read along and answer the questions as we go there are blank rows of 1 squares so they're telling us each square is a meter in length of course the drawing is not to scale so how many rows horizontally 4567 trailheads blank one square meter squares so each row 3 squared * 3. 21211 Squares covering rectangle the area therefore is 21 squared continue to the next page the next page has many rectangles in a grid it says look at the rectangles in the grid right the length the area of give your answers and correct units and received so we're going to use centimeters squared hazard all right so let's look at AAA is actually already done three 523 * 2 is 6 so if we do 1 2 3 4 5 5 cm buy a width of 1 cm the area will be 5 * 1 okay let's look at sea 1 2 3 4 5 centimeters and a width of 3 centimeters we're going to do length times width 4D here's to the length and the width of the same two 2 cm two times two is four centimeters squared for the area 1 2 3 4 2 3 4 centimeters centimeters in an area of meters squared is another Square Same by 3 3 3 cm equals an area of 9 cm squared and finally for G one two three 456 width is 3 6 cm by 3 cm gives us a total area of 18 centimeters squared all right so that's it that's required for math today and if you want to there is an optional page you can go back to try it try a little bit of it you don't have to do the whole thing
