hi everybody Welcome to week 8 of distance learning this week we're going to be still working on main idea and key details finding those in the chapters that you're reading and you're still going to be looking while you're reading standard for literature and so on Friday or Ms forms quiz the house some review of May 19th what's your reading and adding on to it with some videos that I posted for you to watch during the week for literature so please make sure you're looking at those videos and maybe taking all right first or going to start off with my lovely sunshine this is when you're supposed to be previewing what's your reading something about this in social studies and science you're looking through the pictures the graphs the headings seeing what the topic is about you're trying to find the main idea what is it that you're reading about you also could be able to reread this means you need to stop and reread a section when you don't understand it if you get confused or if you're not sure about what's happening text book for the chapter book stop and reread teach someone else if you're doing a good job reading you should be able to explain or teeth someone what you just read pictures of the log splitters for when we talked about pretend someone just came into the room and you need to tell them what happened in the chapter that is a teaching strategy teaching someone else that you can keep someone else you know what you're doing my next poster is taking skills I wanted to go over this especially with my 5th graders because next year when you go to Middle School you're going to have more classes more teachers and they're going to expect you to know how to take good notes it's not hard to take notes but you have to learn how to do it it's it it is a technique and you have to practice it so there's this as opposed to a meeting about note a note taking details of a text us when you're doing science or social studies what is it that you're supposed to be learning while you're reading the text you learn vocabulary has good notes you should have vocabulary words that are going to be on your quiz taking notes helps you remember what you've learned or just read if you're not taking those it's really hard to remember what's happening do you need to create your own system that works for you knows there's different ideas how to take notes in middle school but you have to make it work for you if it doesn't work for you you're not going to use it some ideas are color coding your notes like the top one color are the key details and main idea or another color so color code is an idea I know some of you already taken some social studies done this in literature the waterseer that's a quick way to like take a big chunk of information and get to the point get to the main idea and the vocabulary you don't know the books are glorious what's your learning especially in science or social studies you're going to have a really hard time being able to explain it on a test so I hope you enjoy the little videos I have for you there brain pops attention and don't forget to take your Microsoft forms quiz at the end of the week on Friday and those questions will be on there so pay attention and you should be reading a chapter book three times a week you should be figuring out what book you're going to give me on May 29th or before you can always turn it in early I love that cuz I can get it back to you last least some of you still need to go on i-Ready reading to 50 ring for 30 minutes twice a day 30 + 30 is 60 60 Minutes is what I'm looking for some people are literally doing it for 15 minutes they don't think I check checking to your work I hope you have a great week reading everybody
