good morning first graders this is your instructional video for Monday we're going to be reviewing some of the concepts that I introduced last week in the video and they sending me some new ideas follow along and take notes you should have a piece of paper a pencil and your protractor I'll leave that up to you you can also just watch and listen up find you alright so last week we talked about the gym talked about lions line segments and Rays so a line is a series of points connected and it goes on and on directions to draw a line on paper from now on letters are and we're going to have an appointment on the line so we put the letters r t the line symbol the line we always used to letter so we can change the order of the letters so they could be lines RC it could also be like er does it matter what order you put the letters with the line if you were to add a third point to the line must say we add a point s we now have more often to name the same line you're still going to use the two points but you can pick any I could reverse those letters and call it line at and call it line Hazard and finally I could call this line are asked and given that we have D3 plank those are the correct name for the two points to name a line it doesn't matter what order you put them in and you use this symbol to show that it's a line not a line segment or Ray music similar to the line in one way it has one side with an arrow is on and on forever cited High a point where we call an endpoint that means it does not the one in this direction. Starts here and goes on forever in this Direction only two letters to name a ray so let's say the letters on this radar w and z when were name is Ray there's a little more to it than any order Utah endpoint of the ray first so the only name for this Ray right now is r a w w only correct names I can use the symbol AWG now the rain has another correct name it could be near a I have to be to enter correctly called r a w s or r a w z only two letters don't use all three he always named the end so I could not call this Ray CW because he is not the end One Direction that has one endpoint I only have line segments call a line segment is like a piece of a line and has 2 endpoints it stops on both sides put an end point on both sides and then label so let's call this when we name a line segment letters have to be the endpoint symbol a name for a line segment order as long as we're using the endpoints so we can also call this line segment line ray line segment now last week we started talking about the words parallel and perpendicular and parallel and perpendicular is that two lines alive equal distance apart all the time meaning no matter how long they are no matter how long you send them they are always going to be the same distance apart are another way to think of that is that they will never enter start a free hand draw some parallel lines and line segments just kind of eyeballing it and trying to make them look parallel might not be perfectly accurate but just to get an ID if I have this line segments are parallel would look something like this Daiso even if I were to occur they would never intersect points on them stay the same distance apart the entire time and now there's a mathematical way to talk about appear to be parallel if I drew something  like line segments that do not intersect my picture are not prosecute they are not parallel because they don't stay equal distance apart we can tell it if we were to extend them they would end up Crossing would end up intersecting they let me have perpendicular perpendicular are lines that intersect means a cross Frost Frost in a special way these lines are perpendicular cross to form a right angle they intersect at a right angle so yeah you can kind of eyeball and say all right I want to draw a line segment that crosses and a skier since forms a square Corner appear to form a 90-degree angle because we're using a protractor I'm actually going to use that forming a right angle add another line segment here so this line segment is perpendicular to this line segment alright so how many right angles when I cross these there's a right angle here or right angle hair all the way around all of these are right angles all the way of around and we would say line segments are perpendicular to each other we're going to be working in the workbook where you're going to see them using math tools to make sure that lines are parallel or actually perpendicular right triangle.
