Take notes on UNIQUE FACTS from 3 Gold Rush books on Epic

hi 4th graders I want to show you three bucks that I'm going to push out to you on Epic and you are not supposed to read the books cover to cover the word I used review the books so when you review the books what we're trying to do is gather some new information some unique facts we want to take some notes that's what this is about we're going to be looking at some books and some videos Don I'm going to put on a Leo and you're going to be trying to find some new information not the same stuff we already know so let me give you an example how you review a book to grab some notes first of all I'll just open this one and this book Turn the page I'm going to look at the text and if you remember text features what are the pictures what are the words what's the format it isn't just word to word from top to bottom this particular text feature have something over here that's called a caption right and it has a title and subtitle it has photographs and some of these are primary sources and these are like gold nuggets when you really play examine primary sources you find out more about us. Or a timer in event then if you just looked at a regular picture so I'm not going to read this I'm going to kind of look at it like this page when I look at it like all this is about going to California and Reno and some of it isn't interesting me or grabbing my attention I'm just going to pass through I was about. fever about what life is in the camps what's my interesting page I might stay here a little longer and read some of the part and see if there's something new and this also I might stop and look at quotes that are from real people sense at the time because that was really important stuff called wild west Tales so I might look at this a little bit I feel do you know a lot about the routes and the dangers so I don't that doesn't interest me I want to try to find something that's a little new for me that I don't really know about I know a lot about the diggers and panning for gold I know about the mining camps so maybe when I look at this book I'm only going to find maybe two or three things that are new pieces of information that I'm going to take note song maybe I'll read a little more about boomtown's maybe I will read some stories about the lucky ones and maybe I'm not going to find that this book was that interesting to me this is After The Goldrush and this is a really interesting great page and we didn't get here yet in social studies but you might want to have a preview and read about what happened after the Gold Rush I want to show you something at the end book there is a glossary and if you need to look up a word or find out what something means definitely use the glossary but look what happens when you finish the book it says I know you finish the book take the quiz not using these book to take quizzes and if you want to do what you can for sure but we're using these books to look through we're reviewing information I lost it really fast so we can try to find out some extra information about The Gold Rush fault because I flipped through this book really fast in like 2 minutes it thinks I read the book and it's too play me I can read I mean I can do the task you don't want to do the test that would not be a good idea for you not functioning well two more books you can look at 1 is called life bring the gold rush and the other is called California Gold Rush. We're going to be too hard for you to actually read and some might be boring and you're just going to look at how it's organized Marshall's big find oh I already know about this I don't want to read about things I already know about I want to really get to some things that are interesting to me and that I don't know and those are the notes I want to take so maybe I feel like I don't know as much of a their clothing or their shopping or women in the gold rush cuz there were women who also did go to California so like I said there's three different books and when you get to do not take the test unless you want to these are just three sources for us to look at because we want to do multiple sources looking at pictures looking at images may be reading captions so I want you to do it really thoughtfully and slower than what I just did I was just trying to show you make it back to the book quickly she's like frustrating I want to see show you what the books are that we have we have to do this over all right well I think you get the idea there we go for the third one just called California Gold Rush I actually really liked this book because I I finished it already but I'm getting cuz I looked at it before I started a video but I want to show you this one has a lot of primary source photos so you might want look at this one they're not really for us just to read they were for us to take a look at take a look at what's in there because we want to add some notes and we're going to keep those notes and then we're going to do something with it so don't write things that we already know about okay try to find some new things all right cool
