good morning 4th graders so today this city is a little different I am not doing the work book or class work with you but I want you to watch this video just to get some basic information on angles because on Monday we're going to be covering chapter 9 which is on angles and what are they using protractors hopefully all of you had a chance this week to pick up a protractor or do you already have one of your own. The school that we're going to use over the next couple of weeks so first of all we're sending and I'm sure you've heard Tangled before but basically angles are two rays or two line segments that share a common endpoint are pieces of cases of a line share a common endpoint or we can draw as raise raise meaning. habanero meaning it goes on and on Forever both of these are angles and we call that point that they share the vertex and then we call these two parts of it I'm the angle Passover tax side side queso and measured in degrees when we talk about measuring an angle that's what your protractor the one that you've got and drawing angles measuring angles and something called Seabreeze and you might have seen the symbol at the little circle up there and I know one angle that you're familiar with is probably what we call a right and go like the corner of a square looks like that and degree openings so one of the things we talk about when we talk about size of an angle is that it doesn't matter, it doesn't matter how long the size are that's not how we determine the size of an angle is about how open it is so if it's a more closed smaller if it's more open I'm going to be a bigger angle say so for example angle is bigger than this angle because this one is more open this one is more close to this is the larger angle naming angles angle we want to identify where they are we use letters and usually used three letters another angle this angle we always have a letter on the vertex text let's say this is the letter Act and then we would have a letter on each side so maybe W and it's Tuesday three letters on the angle and then you can either write or you can use the symbol for an angle that looks like that and you use all three letters to name the angle and the Only Rule is that the vertex has to be in the xw I could name it angle WS but I can't remit angle xwd because whatever the vertex is it has to stay in the middle so this is one way to write 8 using a word you can also just use the Sim angle zxw or angle w but so far we have two names for this angle text so we could call this just or write it like this just angle X three possible names we use the letters to keep the vertex in the middle really quick overview of some types of classify angles are we do it by the size of the angle the number of degrees in this is something that will do a lot more of once we start using a protractor but I think you've heard some of these so there are angles called excuse acute angles have fewer 90° smaller than a right angle members of the right angles like the corner of a square so this is an angle that smaller AR anything that doesn't open up all the way to a right angle almost a right angle but not quite these are acute angles fewer than 90° painted after it's cute we would have our right angle a right angle is going to be exactly 90° hey just like the corner of a rectangle or a square and it can go in any direction and see that little square corner lyrics to show that the right angle on free hand drawing so it's not going to be perfectly 90° Square there instead of a curve that means I'm telling you it's a 90 degree angle is a right angle 90 degrees Spruce Goose so an obtuse angle is going to be greater the 90° also less than 180° greater than 90 less than 180 so that's going to be something bigger than a right think about 18180 of a straight line somewhere between a right angle and a straight line so it might look something like this it's more open than a right angle but not all the way straight line I need to drive vertically so it looks more like this so not quite a straight line there's the angle you can be just barely bigger than a right angle hey those are obtuse greater than 90 less than 180 so then after that the next type would be a straight which is going to be exactly 180 degrees and 180 degrees is a straight line we'll talk about once we are using our protractor how we can show 180° 80° finally something called a reflex and a reflex angle is greater that might look something like this I'm actually drawing an acute angle the watch where I put the curve is the time going to show I don't mean this little angle here I mean this big angle outside text angle all this is just me giving it to you for the first time just like when we start a new chapter in the classroom and I always say we're going to do this over and over again it'll make sense to the mall right now will be doing this on paper with our Pro can a lot of practice and you'll start to memorize these turns but those are the types of angles the tool that we use to measure them as a protractor so you should have one if you don't let me know and we'll see if we can get one to you measured in degrees and one last time we name them with three letters so video let's say this was our angle it was AR so maybe pause the video on tank what are the three names that I can give to this angle 3 names text Angela still keeping the vertex in the
