hi boys and girls today we're going to go over our new unit unit 6 together we can I'm going to share my screen and we are going to read a poem. please follow along with me together is better whatever we do you get so much more done when someone helps you if someone is lonely and not having fun just ask them to play Two Is Better Than One and book sandwich better when shared with a friend together is better beginning to end my Constance a caramel boys and girls how do you sync teamwork helps us can you think about that think about what the author was saying here what does the writer think about working together what things are better with more than one person can you think about that it sounds like in this part of the poem you get so much more done when someone helps you what about this part here when someone's lonely you can just ask let me play and also sharing your toys or books with a friend together is better beginning to end let's look at this picture our weekly Concepts this week is called taking action essential question is how can we work together to make our lives better I want you to look at this picture here and think about what are the boys doing in this picture what are the people behind here doing can you see them working together in any way when I look at the sphere I see lots of teamwork I see them helping to paint the wall I see the boys may be helping to mix the paint together I see some of the kids maybe even talking about what they're going to do together can you think about a time that you were with someone else and it's helped you make your life better think about that right now all right friends we're going to go and Cher another part of our weekly opener now how can we work together to make our lives better when many of us work together we can tackle big job and environment is that working together to keep the park safe for everyone to use and enjoy when there's a big job to be done and each person takes a small part the job can be done quickly helping each other on a project can be unto these children are working together as and make our lives better every day I hate boys and girls we are going to talk a little bit more about working together so we have an interactive read aloud and well you are listening to the story I want you to think about strategies for being a good reader one strategy is rereading parts of a story can help me to better understand it so today as we read the cat spell I'm going to pay close attention to which parts I do not understand or want to make sure I remember and then I might even go back and reread it the cat spell based on a fable by Aesop how can mice work together to keep a cat away a hungry little mouth are Johnny rumbled she could see a table loaded with good things to eat the people in our house had finished dinner look at all the lovely leftovers she sweet mice Nest inside they were hungry too so much yummy food at the little mouse is friend and we can't have any it's not fair hungry little mouse nodded dude with their butts so was Max the cat he was looking at the mousehole and swishing his tail back and forth her tummy Rumble again I'm going to get supper she said don't go with your friend you could get hurt all right so boys and girls when I think about the beginning part of that story I found it it was a little confusing or not said I understood why the mice can't go and eat the food on the table so when I reread the text I might be able to understand what was happening since today you're just listening I want you to listen to it again and think about why mice can't go and eat the food on the table think about that while you're listening again the cat spell based on a fable by esab how can mice work together to keep a cat away a hungry little mouthpiece out of her whole are Tommy rumbled she could see a table loaded with good things to eat the people in her house and finish dinner look at all the leftovers she sweet the other mice nest and side they were hungry too so much yummy food that the little now and we can't have any it's not fair angry little mouse nodded the food was there so was Max the cat he was looking at the mousehole and again I understand now that the mice were afraid of the cat that's why they can't get the let's see what happens next we have to do something about the cat what can we do ask her friend the other mind for listening to them we need to find a dog to chase Max away that silly and another where are we going to find a dog the size what if the dog chases us too we can't risk that let's just wait until he goes outside that attended now he could sneak back in that house that's the trouble we never know when he's coming even the mice were in the middle of a big conflict one mouth after another Shout It Out idea what to do each Mouse tried to shout louder than the others the first little mouth couldn't stand the noise she put her paws over her ears all right boys and girls do you think someone is shouting about being helpful to think about that remember how can you work together to be successful then a little mouse an idea noise that's the solution she shouted taking her paws from her ears Mac sneaks up on us because he's so quiet if we hear incoming we can run away safely the other mice nodded what we need to do that the first Nails is put a bell on the cat can mice jump up and down in excitement a twirl their tails and clap their paws what a wonderful idea and a wise old mouse oh God yes he said it's a good idea but let me ask you this will Bell the Cat I stopped clapping they looked at each other who would take such a risk and put a bell on the cat not me said one and another and another you do it no pushed and shouted at each other none of the mice wanted to get close to the cat another argument was starting okay so boys and girls in that part of the passage the little mouse had a fabulous idea on how they would know when the count was coming and then someone realized that there might be a problem with that idea and you think about what that problem was remember the problem is that somehow they have to get a bell around the cat and none of the mice want to do it can you think of another solution what would you do if you were one of the little mice let's see what happens next stop cried the little mouse there's no need to quarrel we must all work together to my stock quiet and shifted their feet I know where there's a bell at the ten Bells it's in the children's room Max's outside I'll get the Bell offered a strong Mouse I can find a ribbon at the little mouse friend ring the bell on the ribbon said three young mice and we'll put it where the people will find it with a note that says for Max and two grown-up mice early the next morning when the people came into the kitchen for breakfast oh the woman and it's she quickly hide it on Max you look very silly as a ran to hide jingling with every step all the little mice were thrilled they couldn't wait for the people to finish breakfast so their mice that has theirs so it sounds like the anime figured out a strategy to solve their problem can you think about what that strategy was what was the solution to their problem how did they end up getting the Bell around the cat think about. I noticed a theme here and not is teamwork we always say in our classroom Teamwork Makes the Dream work so it seems as though these mice working together figured out that teamwork best solution to their problem and we're going to go over our spelling pattern right now and this week our spelling pattern has to do with the can you say that with me so we have different ways that the new sound can be spelled so I want you to look at these words with me and let's try to sound them out Boom Room soon soon walls tools super cool Rick Rude Rude to Drew too new to blue juice if you K and then we're going to see some different ones look at the different sound there Loop Road food rude and we have some review sounds to stay here's another who is to they're worried that you're going to see in our story this week Wayne Coyne house mouse down town corn boys boys all right friends we are going to need you to put on your listening ears are you ready give me a thumbs-up when you're ready I'm going to tell you three words I want you think about which word has a different sound the first one I'm going to do for you okay I'm going to tell you three words fruit noon shoe fruit noon shoe these all have the sound in them there are no difference. now I'm going to try to say three words two of them will have the same sound but one of them will not let's see if you can figure it out the first one is poop cookie moose poop cookie can you identify the word that has a different sound if you said cookie you're right moose and who have the same sound okay how about this next script House Cow Taos cow corn can you identify which one has a different sound if you said corn you are right that Bossy R sound or is different than in house and couch. Owl sound one more about this group stork Lou to stork flew to which one does not if you said stork you are correct there's another Bossy R with that or sound flu and to both have the sound great job this week for you spelling words you're going to be identifying different ways that the sound can be spelled maybe you can take a minute and be a detective on this page and see what you can find I see one who is spelled with an o u vowel team make a new sound can you find a different way I'll look at this blue you each other making out can you find another one what tools 200 sometimes makes the sound look at there's another one ew as in new mixer to sound can you find any others I see one super super remember that vaciar serves as a vowel lands on top of the lungs Owls Head says its own aims and then it goes back it doesn't make a sound in this case because it has an ER guest to say look at it in this work he jumps over one consonant lands on the valve head the valve says food so today and this whole week we want you to be found all right friends the next thing we're going to do is go to our story for the week and I'm going to have the computer read it to you but we'll be discussing parts of the story as we go you'll also have some time to be reading this on your own genre fantasy essential question how can we work together to make our lives better read about how girls forgotten writing tools work together to become useful again super tools a few weeks ago please Mom and Dad brought a new computer home this is so cool explained to Lucy Lucy use the computer all the time but not everyone was happy about the new computer Lucy didn't know it but her writing tools felt sad and useless one day while she was at school they had an emergency meeting Lucy hasn't used us in a week can we demand to use ask the Crayons know that would be rude but we can remind her how great we are at the pencils yes they all agreed let's remind her okay so boys and girls after listening to that can you think about what new thing Lucy gets what it is maybe take a look at the picture here use your picture Clues text for your evidence I notice this I also noticed the text evidence where it says Lucy's mom and dad brought a new computer home after school as soon as Lucy came through the door she grabbed a glass of juice and went right to her computer she had to write a report about birds reading schools watched and waited when Lucy was done she printed her report that night the writing tools got busy they work together to make a picture for loose pencils made A Sketch markers through the birds in the tree the Crayons drew the sun in a blue sky the picture was good enough to frame wow how did her writing tools with her report let's think about that can you find any text evidence or using picture Clues to help you take a look see if you can find them what is this line here in my text evidence they work together to make a picture for Lucy it says the pencils made us catch if I'm not sure what a sketches I'm going to look up here and see if they do sign in the blue sky the next day was Saturday Lucy woke up late then she went to get her app Lucie guest she couldn't believe her eyes who through this great picture she asked did you draw this Lucy ask Mom and Dad you know the answer to that they laughed stop choking you drew that great picture that made Lucy think she wished she has Ron it it is fun to draw she said okay let's see about this year what does seeing the picture make Lucy wish or what does she wish for you look at your text evidence here let's look for the word wish see the exact word wish but I do see another form of it there's the word wished at the suffix ET me read what that says that made Lucy think she wished he had sounds like she really wish that she had done it all by herself Lucy hung the picture in her room then she took out her pain markers all draw my own picture for my report she said Lucy and her pencils crayons and markers work together super picture from that day on Lucy kept drawing and the writing tools felt happy and useful friends what does Lucy decide to do for her report what did she do how to do let's go and look at our text evidence we can also look at our picture close here and seeing her working really hard on something I'm not really sure to go back and reread it how I see it says right here in the text all John my own picture for my report make connections how did Lucy's writing tools work together to become useful again I want you to think about that how did Lucy's writing tools work together to become useful again I'm thinking about that and I noticed that it was really nice that they helped her butt she realized she wanted to be a part of it as well so when they all work together they felt happy and useful let's learn about our author actually we're going to learn that are the theme is the big idea or message of a story find text evidence find Clues to help you understand the theme that night the writing tools got busy they work together to make a picture for Lucy pencils made A Sketch markers through the birds in the tree to crayons drew the sun in a blue sky the picture was good enough to frame okay so friends the steam is the big idea or the message of the story so we know that the pencils made a sketch and were using our Clues and our text evidence I know this is going to be a diagram that you will have an opportunity to do this week with your practice book pages and you can choose to do it from the same story or any of the stories that we talked about how the clues support graphic organizer clue the pencils made of sketch play the markers through the birds in the tree clue the Clans through the sun in a blue sky writing tools work together to make their lives better okay so boys and girls this team is the writing tools work together to make their lives and the clues are here we started off with the pencil made us catch the markers do the birds in the trees and the Crayons true the sun in a blue sky so you're going to think about what your steam is whether it's from this or any of the other stories are reading this week and think about your Steam and what Clues support you stop sharing the screen now and I want you to make sure that you are also reviewing your weekly vocabulary words on McGraw-Hill and wonders you can find the definition to your spelling words by frequency words and review those on your own I hope you have a great week and I look forward to seeing you all on Friday
