4th Grade California Social Studies, State Report and Grammar:

Monday 4/27

  • Slide 3: Yearly Temperatures (average highs and lows, what is the weather mostly like in your state?) A bar graph of high and low temperatures from your state may be helpful here.

Today you’ll work on slide 3, which is on temperature in your state. Find a graph that shows the highs and lows for your state’s capital over the average year.  It’s usually represented as a bar graph, separated by months of the year, but sometimes I’ve seen it done with a line graph as well. Either one is fine. Paste this graph onto your PowerPoint slide on temperature.

Tuesday 4/28

Finish your temperature slide for your Climate PowerPoint. Yesterday you should have found and inserted a graph on yearly temperatures in your state capital. Today you’ll write a description of how the temperatures change over the course of the year in your state. Make sure to pay attention to accuracy.  For instance, if you’re writing about Hawaii, you wouldn’t say that in the fall there are Santa Ana winds and wildfires—that's specific to California.

Wednesday 4/29

  • Slide 4Seasons for your state (what the weather is like in each season? What activities do people do in each season?)

Work on the fourth slide of your climate power point. Today, describe the seasons in your state overall.  If your state is large, or if the seasons vary a LOT throughout the state (like California), just describe what the seasons are like in your state’s capital.  You can use bullets with complete thoughts or complete sentences, and make sure to talk about precipitation and overall weather during each season.

Thursday 4/30

Finish the seasons slide in your power point presentation.  You should tell activities that people can do in your state in the various seasons.  Again, you should write this accurately and specifically about your state—if your state is Iowa, you won‘t be talking about going surfing in the Pacific Ocean in the summer!

Friday 5/1- Watch this great video about the Gold Rush and its connection to The Great Horned Spoon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7Wr1tMs5F0

Take your AR Test on the Great Horned Spoon.
