write this is your video to review for your assessment for today it is beyond perimeter and area classes for the few changes in a couple additional things on it but still focus on perimeter and area of rectangles you all the types of questions and then if you want to you can do that you can watch it whatever you want to do to help yourself so we are still looking at perimeter and area and hopefully by now you're pretty comfortable with the definitions of perimeter and area but you do need to know those for the assessment they were on their last so what is when we talk about the perimeter of a shape what do we mean by that it's distance around outside of a state around outside are they safe slightly differently it could be the measure of the distance around the outside measure of the lengths of the sides of a measuring around the tape around the outside of the area is a measure of inside surface remember what area we always say we measure measure in square units measure in so whatever we're measuring area label our answers West Square something square centimeters square inches square miles area the inside surface of a shape day and then I'm going along with the definition how do you get the perimeter and area of a shape so how how do we find the perimeter of a shape for perimeter no matter what the shape is rectangle triangle all the sides together so for a rectangle to find a perimeter we add the length of all four sides together for trying to find a perimeter of a rectangle with a doll four sides together how do we get the area of a rectangle well remember when we first started this we were looking at rectangles that had grid squares drawn on them and what the area if there are squares on there is two where to find the area but when were talking about most problems that we're going to do we find the area using formula Mercedes use the formula which X start to get the area of a rectangle multiply the length this is just a how how do I get the perimeter of a rectangle I add the length of all the sides together how do I get the area of a rectangle I multiply the length by the way area equals length times width all right last week you had a problem where the rectangle had a grid drawing on it and like this and you were asked to find the area and the perimeter there will be rectangles that have dimension door or side lengths already labeled on them so here's an example so you don't have a couple problems picture of a rectangle the rectangle has the width and the length already labeled and you'll be asked to find the perimeter of that rectangle so let's practice it now with an actual rectangle perimeter of a rectangle we just said you add the length of all four sides together a friend that I need to add four sides together I have two sides labeled because it's a rectangle I know opposite sides are equal so I can go ahead and either thinking my head or write it on the paper is this side is also 4 cm is this side is 9/10 this site is also known as 979 + 4 1330 + 9 is 22 22 + 4 is 26 so my perimeter is 26cm for side together we're going to use the formula the formula for area is Lent X the area of a rectangle the length and the width is 4 9 * 4 + 9 * 4 is 36 so we would say the area is 36 square centimeters is 36 square centimeters how you get the area it'll be a couple problems like that and then there will be I know this one was or not this one one similar to this was on last week's if that's when I tried to add it give you a reminder that on a shaped like that it is placed on top of a grid and if you're asked to find the area that you're going to use the grid as best you can to count. play squares make up the state and the question because it's really impossible to get a perfect answer for exactly how many squares the estate sale. Because a lot of the park we're not even filling up a nice fraction of a square is very regular so on a problem like this the whole square is how many whole squares does it sort of roughly estimate the parts the parts of the square and see if you can combine them to make pool squares are close to a whole Square when you look at the answers choices I'll be careful not to put any places that are really close to the correct one but wrong hey the ranges will be pretty spread out so that's close to one of the answer choices but not exact that's probably correct answer counting this one together we start by counting the really obvious squares or almost there and then I write that number down and then I can not have to be a perfect answer Cedar like one like this where it's almost home I'm going to go ahead and count it one two three four five six seven eight nine 10 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 for 35 36 37 38 39 40 41 42 43 44 45 46 47 48 49 50 51 52 53 54 55 59 60 61 62 63 64 so they're about 64 squares or very close to whole square that I counted already go round the outside and piece together these halves or fractions of a state and I'm going to put the 64 to the side DVDs 3 S3 9 Call Me Maybe all these little Parts here so I got about 77 okay and I would get to somebody else counted they might have something several squares above or below but should still be in the range to get the right answer so probably it. something light something like 32 to 38 47 70s to 80s a when you can you get something like seven go to the one that makes the most sense the rest of them to be pretty far away from your total so this one clearly my answer salad here so I would choose Choice one question Lakers I swear it's not 77 but you'll have to count it and then look for the choice is closest to what you had there's one more type of question that's going to be on not on this we did some of these E71 where you are given the area and one side of the rectangle and then you have to figure out the other side if I said area is a rectangle 24 square centimeters 6 cm is what you're going to have a question like that you're going to be given the area you're going to be given the length and you're going to need to figure out the width so remember the formula so I usually write the formula and you can just write a equals L times w so now I'm going to write 24 instead of area what does a W-2 represent that I don't know yet I'm trying to figure out what w is equal just trying to figure out what the width is so I know 24 is equal to 6 times something 6 times what is going to get me to 24 that's what I need to figure out the basic facts you know that 6 * 4 equals 24 there for the centimeters in one more like that is it said the area a rectangle 32 square inches area of the rectangle is 32 32 we're trying to figure out if 32 is equal to 8 times the number 38 * 1 the four inches is your answer and then go ahead and click on the links and take you
